The department of mechanical engineering is one of the oldest departments which started during the inception of Shri K J Polytechnic Bharuch in 1961. From its inception, the department has managed to produce efficient and employable mechanical engineers who, not only work as a team leader and member in various reputed organizations but also are successful as an entrepreneur. The highly qualified faculties and availability of variety of resources are some of the positive perks of studying in the department. Keeping in pace with the technological revolution, mechanical engineers have shifted their focus from conventional boundaries and are becoming proficient in new technologies viz nanotechnology, development of composite materials, biomedical applications, and environmental conservation. This has led to an inter disciplinary approach towards engineering problems and its solution.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Shri K. J. Polytechnic, Bharuch is supported by a team of well-qualified and experienced faculty members dedicated to effective teaching, learning, and experimental activities. The department is equipped with well-established laboratories such as FMHM Lab, Thermal Engineering Lab, Materials and Metallurgy Lab, CAD Lab, CAM Lab, and Mechanical Workshop, providing students with strong hands-on exposure. These laboratories are furnished with the latest experimental and computational facilities to support outcome-oriented learning.

In alignment with the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework initiated by the Government of Gujarat, the department has adopted an OBE-based teaching–learning process that focuses on achieving clearly defined Program Outcomes (POs) and Course Outcomes (COs). Teaching methodologies, laboratory practices, projects, internships, and assessments are designed to ensure measurable learning outcomes and continuous improvement.

The department regularly organizes expert lectures, workshops, seminars, industrial visits, and internships in various specialized fields of Mechanical Engineering. These activities bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, enabling a smooth transition from academic life to professional practice.

The department strongly believes in the multidimensional development of students and encourages active participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, including technical competitions, sports, and cultural events, fostering leadership, teamwork, and professional ethics.

I encourage students to make the best use of the academic environment and facilities provided and strive towards achieving excellence in their chosen field.
